A Kenya trip from India does not need to begin with an ambitious circuit of parks, cities and beaches. If you want wildlife, a change of scenery and time together without unpacking every night, Nairobi and Naivasha offer a useful starting plan.
This suggested seven-night trip uses two destination bases, with a final return to Nairobi. Adjust it around your interests and confirmed transport.
Start with the whole journey from your city
Compare the complete route from your departure city, including any connection within India. Kenya Airways offers a Mumbai to Nairobi flight search. Check your dates, operating flights and baggage conditions directly; an advertised route does not tell you the best connection for your particular journey.
Look at the Kenyan arrival date and check-in time together. If you arrive before the room is ready, agree on luggage storage or reserve early access in advance. Confirm the number of people and bags for the transfer, particularly when travelling with children or a larger group.
Keep the first evening uncomplicated: a confirmed pickup, access to your stay and a meal you do not have to improvise after travelling.
Nights one to three: settle into Nairobi
Choose accommodation around the parts of Nairobi you intend to use. A stay selected for a meeting, a family visit or a particular attraction may be more practical than the cheapest result on a broad city search.
Give one day to a wildlife outing. Nairobi National Park includes a rhino sanctuary and a landscape close to the city. Confirm the vehicle, guide, park entry and pickup arrangements separately from the room booking. Ask about the outing's length and rest stops if anyone in your group needs a gentler pace.
Leave another day for the interests you actually share: a museum, a planned meal, visiting friends or simply enjoying your accommodation. Avoid putting a full sightseeing programme immediately after an early arrival.
Compare Nairobi stays, then use our practical Nairobi accommodation guide to weigh the room price against transport and meal costs.
Nights four to six: slow down in Naivasha
Arrange the transfer before leaving Nairobi and confirm the location of the Naivasha property. “Naivasha” can describe a wide search area; ask how you will reach the places you want to visit and where meals or groceries are available.
On arrival, settle in rather than booking several activities for the same afternoon. For the following days, choose one active outing and one slower experience.
Hell's Gate National Park offers cycling and hiking in a landscape of cliffs and valleys. Confirm current access, equipment and guide arrangements. If cycling is not right for everyone, choose a different outing rather than dividing the group into a plan nobody enjoys.
A Crescent Island visit is another option. Its visitor information makes a useful distinction: the sanctuary does not operate boats, and its entry payment is separate from boat operators. Confirm transfers and admission with the appropriate providers instead of assuming a boat quote covers everything.
Keep one afternoon free for the stay itself. Browse Naivasha accommodation and check the Naivasha weekend guide for a more detailed two-day activity plan.
Night seven: return for a calmer departure
Spend the final night in Nairobi if it gives your itinerary useful separation between the road transfer and the international flight. Choose the location around your confirmed departure arrangements. Do not assume that being in Nairobi means every airport transfer takes the same time.
If your flight schedule makes an extra night unnecessary, discuss the margin with the transport provider before shortening the booking. Allow the actual journey to determine the plan.
Choose a stay that works for your group
Check sleeping arrangements, not only the maximum guest count. Ask how many separate bedrooms there are, which beds share a room and whether extra beds attract a charge. For relatives travelling together, a shared living room can be more useful than several disconnected rooms.
Other questions worth settling include:
- Is there step-free access, or are there stairs between the entrance, bedroom and bathroom?
- Is the kitchen usable for the meals you intend to prepare, and what equipment is supplied?
- Are laundry, drinking water and housekeeping included or charged separately?
- Are balconies, pools and outdoor areas appropriate for the children in your group?
- Can the host accommodate your arrival time and the number of vehicles?
Ask directly about anything essential to comfort or accessibility.
Plan meals without making assumptions
If anyone needs vegetarian, Jain, halal or allergy-aware meals, describe the requirement clearly before booking accommodation or an excursion. Ask about ingredients and preparation, not just whether a menu has a label. Preferences differ between travellers, so get confirmation for your own group.
For a self-catering stay, check whether groceries can be bought on the arrival route and whether the kitchen equipment matches your plans. For day trips, establish who supplies lunch and whether dietary requests have been accepted.
Documents and current travel information
Check the official Kenya eTA guidance, the government's inbound travel insurance portal, and current notices from the High Commission of India in Nairobi. Confirm requirements for your passport, transit route and return to India before buying non-refundable travel.
Questions about a week in Kenya
Can I add the Maasai Mara to this itinerary?
Yes, by replacing part of the plan and allowing for the transfers. Simply adding it to the same seven nights changes the pace considerably. If a longer safari is your main goal, build the holiday around that first.
Can this work for a honeymoon?
Yes. Choose privacy and the experiences you both want, then confirm any celebration arrangements. Our Kenya honeymoon guide helps you prioritise them.
What should I confirm before paying?
Confirm dates, total price, guest count, contact details and cancellation terms. Read Kamkejani's booking policies, and make sure the stay and any excursions are clearly identified as separate bookings when appropriate.
